Good walks start with a comfortable fit. Use this guide to take your dog's measurements before choosing a harness.
This is a measuring guide, not a product size chart. Compare your measurements with the dimensions for the exact harness you want. If those dimensions are not listed, please contact us before ordering.
1. Get ready
Use a soft measuring tape while your dog is standing naturally. If you use a piece of string, lay it flat against a ruler afterwards. Keep the tape flat without pulling it tight.
2. Measure the chest
Measure around the widest part of the chest, usually just behind the front legs. Record the full circumference. Check where the chest strap sits on the harness you are considering.
3. Check the neck measurement
Measure around the area where the harness sits at the base of the neck. Harness shapes differ, so a collar measurement alone may not be enough.
4. Compare the exact style
Check both measurements against the range for the product. An XS in one design may fit differently from an XS in another. Breed and body weight can provide context, but they are not a substitute for measurements.
If your dog falls between sizes or the neck and chest suggest different sizes, ask us for help before you order. Include the product name and both measurements.
Centimetres or inches?
We can help with measurements in either unit. One inch equals 2.54 cm. To convert centimetres to inches, divide by 2.54; to convert inches to centimetres, multiply by 2.54.
5. Check the fit before a walk
Follow the instructions for your harness and adjust it evenly. Check that the buckles are secure, your dog can move freely, and the straps do not rub or allow your dog to slip out. Try the fit in a secure indoor area first.
Inspect the straps, buckles and attachment points before use. Recheck the fit as your dog grows or changes shape. A harness should be used under supervision.
